14 January 1959 - 11 April 2025

She was just about to embark on a much anticipated retirement and had planned a range of international travel when she was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer, although her only symptom was a mild but persistent discomfort in her right abdomen.

Her journey for the next three years and four months was heroic, involving major surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy as well as participation in a series of trials of experimental treatments.

The surgeons, oncologists, nurses and palliative care specialists, even the receptionists, were wonderful, but were hampered by a lack of effective screening tests and effective treatments. This is an under-researched and under-funded area and more resources are needed for post treatment support.
