Senior Mental Health Clinician: Psychologist, Mental Health Social Worker, Counsellor

Ovarian Cancer Australia is seeking a qualified and experienced Psychologist, Mental Health Social Worker or Counsellor to provide clinical support to people impacted by ovarian cancer.  Support is provided at all stages of ovarian cancer; from diagnosis to end of life.   

At Ovarian Cancer Australia (OCA), our team is passionate about changing the outcomes for those impacted by ovarian cancer.  There is currently no early detection for this disease and in Australia the five-year survival rate for people affected is just 49%.  The psychological impact of ovarian cancer is significant. OCA has experienced significant growth over recent years, and we are determined to continue making a genuine difference through our support and advocacy services.   

  • Support and improve the psychosocial wellbeing of people with ovarian cancer 

  • Work within a passionate and purpose-driven NFP team  

  • Part-time 0.4-0.6FTE and opportunity to work remotely  

About the role

There are two part-time positions available, both for fixed term contracts for 12 months.   

Either 0.4 (2 days) or 0.6 (3 days) FTE are preferred options.  

Working alongside a team of dedicated and talented clinicians in a cancer support team, you will be motivated and committed to an assigned caseload and undertake project work as required.  Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Providing 1:1 clinical psychological/counselling support Australia wide via telehealth as part of a psychosocial support team. 

  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of new programs to address identified needs or service gaps. 

  • Facilitate online support groups when required. 

  • Record-keeping in line with privacy guidelines. 

  • Provide reports and evaluations as required. 

  • Collaborate cross-functionally and form strong relationships and partnerships internally and externally.

We offer flexible working arrangements including the opportunity to work remotely, or if you are based in Melbourne, the option to combine working from our Melbourne CBD office and working from home. About You

  • tertiary qualifications in psychology (must be a registered psychologist), mental health social work (with experience counselling in the mental health sector) or counselling (fully qualified and experienced in complex chronic illness counselling); other allied health disciplines (eg. occupational therapy) with training and experience in delivering mental health support are encouraged to apply. 

  • registered member of AHPRA or other appropriate professional body

  • at least 5 years’ experience working with people suffering chronic illness in the health sector (experience in cancer highly regarded) or women’s health; 

  • appropriate expertise in evidence-based psychological or counselling interventions; 

  • experience delivering counselling services via Telehealth; 

  • demonstrated capability in proactively and effectively managing a caseload of patients; 

  • a positive, collaborative and ‘can do’ approach to your work with the initiative to work both in-team and autonomously; 

  • experience working in a multidisciplinary team; 

  • commitment to the mission and values of Ovarian Cancer Australia; and 

  • given the nature of the work that we do, an understanding of and ability to apply self-care and when needed support the self-care of others in your team.
