Move for Women with Ovarian Cancer

06 November 2025

~ 2 minutes

Ovarian Cancer Australia (OCA)’s Workout 4 Women returns this November, raising funds for women with ovarian cancer while helping Aussies move more and feel stronger.

Now in its fourth year, the national fitness challenge with heart invites Australians to take on 40km, 80km, or 120km over the month – moving their way to make a difference.

Tania was diagnosed with Stage 3C High Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer at just 41 and is sharing her story to create awareness and inspire others to get involved.

"I didn't have many symptoms at first, just bloating and a feeling that something wasn't quite right," she recalls. “When I was diagnosed, it immediately felt like a death sentence, but I focused on what I could control: my mindset, nourishment, and movement.”

For Tania, movement became a lifeline. She even joined a gym inside her oncology clinic. “I was surrounded by other patients, survivors, people who got it. I felt safe there. Motivated. Seen.”

Ovarian cancer is the most lethal female cancer in Australia, often diagnosed late and taking a huge toll physically, emotionally and financially. Each kilometre moved and every dollar raised through Workout 4 Women helps fund OCA’s critical support services, including specialist nurses, counselling, and peer support – ensuring women receive the care and guidance that made a difference for Tania.

“My OCA Teal Support Nurse Catherine helped me break things down when it all got too much. The Resilience Pack and psychology sessions reminded me it was okay to not be okay. I wasn’t alone,” Tania said.

Ovarian Cancer Australia’s CEO Debbie Shiell said Workout 4 Women not only raises vital funds and awareness for a devastating disease but also gives participants a personal goal to improve their own health and fitness.

“This campaign is about movement with meaning – you’re showing up for women with ovarian cancer, but you’re also showing up for yourself,” Debbie said. “No matter your fitness level, anyone can take part, and every step matters.”
