Job Opportunities

Project Manager – Psychologist Grade 2

  • Improve the wellbeing of women with ovarian cancer

  • Excellent Melbourne city location with remote working options available

  • Candidates Australia-wide considered

  • Contribute to a novel cancer-related fatigue research project for rural Australians

Ovarian Cancer Australia is recruiting a part-time grade 2 Psychologist (0.4FTE) to oversee the implementation of a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Program to assist women with ovarian cancer to better manage cancer-related fatigue. This position is offered on a fixed term contract to July 2027.

At Ovarian Cancer Australia (OCA), our team is passionate about supporting those impacted by ovarian cancer. There is currently no early detection for this disease and in Australia the five-year survival rate for people affected is just 49%. The psychological impact of ovarian cancer is significant.

OCA has recently been granted funding from Cancer Australia to develop and deliver a new program addressing cancer-related fatigue (CRF) amongst people with ovarian cancer. This project addresses a critical gap in supportive care for CRF in people affected by ovarian cancer living in rural Australia. CRF affects 1 in 2 people with ovarian cancer, and data from OCA highlights 94% of women report experiencing CRF.

CRF causes persistent physical, emotional, and cognitive exhaustion that significantly impacts quality of life; however, access to tailored evidence-based support remains non-existent due to geographic and financial barriers.

Unlike other symptoms, CRF cannot be effectively treated through medical interventions alone. To overcome these challenges, this project will deliver a stepped-care, telehealth-delivered Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) Program, ensuring structured, clinician-guided support for managing CRF.

About the Oppurtunity

As a Project Manager for this new cancer-related fatigue project focusing on women with ovarian cancer residing in rural Australia, this position forms part of OCA’s important and valuable support services.

Your key responsibilities include:

Oversee the implementation of a CBT program to help women residing in rural Australia with ovarian cancer better manage cancer-related fatigue.

  • Contribute to the development of a CBT booklet for women with ovarian cancer with cancer-related fatigue (CRF).

  • Work with other OCA support staff, external stakeholders and those with lived experience.

  • Evaluate the feasibility and accessibility of the CBT CRF program.

  • Write and submit a research protocol and human research ethic committee application.

  • Conduct participant recruitment.

  • Administer and evaluate study measures.

  • Deliver an online group CBT intervention for CRF.

  • Contribute to abstracts, peer review publications and conference presentations.

  • Develop and deliver a staff training webinar.

  • Collaborate with members of OCA’s communications and marketing team to support recruitment, information dissemination and delivery of project.

The benefits of working with Ovarian Cancer Australia include not-for-profit salary packaging, five weeks of leave per annum, access to EAP and joining a dedicated, talented and inclusive team where your contribution is valued and your desire to achieve work/life balance is respected. We offer flexible working arrangements including the opportunity to work remotely, or if you are based in Melbourne, the option to combine working from our Melbourne CBD office and working from home.
