How can you get involved?
Ovarian Cancer Australia knows that the most powerful tool to bring about change is the stories and lived experience of those impacted by ovarian cancer. We are so grateful to the many people in the community with a diagnosis of ovarian cancer, and their loved ones, for engaging in our support and advocacy works across the service already.
Some of this work has included:
Sharing your story and experiences for political engagement such as Parliamentary Events (nationally and state based) and for use in pre-budget submissions, policy submissions and MRFF funding rounds.
Having your say through our important data collection such as genetics surveys and consumer surveys, forming the basis of requests for additional funding and support for ovarian cancer
Joining stakeholder working groups for collaborative efforts such as National Action Plan, bringing together the sector
In more recent years, OCA has had increasing opportunities to provide a voice to the growing number of medicines submissions for novel therapies in ovarian cancer and has relied on the sharing of stories and experiences for many in the community. You can find out more about the medicines approval process in Australia and role of the consumer here.
If you would like to know more about the opportunities to be involved in OCA’s advocacy work, or hear more about what we are doing, please don’t hesitate to reach out via support@ovariancancer.net.au
