Research Links

Ovarian Cancer Australia is the only consumer representative group for ovarian cancer patients in Australia. Our charter is to support women and their carers, friends and family who have been touched by ovarian cancer.

There are a number of research groups studying everything from treatment methods to early detection tests. Below we have listed links to organisations that are involved in research into ovarian cancer in some way. Please contact these groups directly for informaiton about each study and its progress.

Gynaecological Oncology Research Program

Westmead Hospital and Westmead Institute for Cancer Research at the Westmead Millennium Institute.

Ovarian cancer research at Westmead is a multidisciplinary program involving scientists, doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers and ethicists, with active patient and care giver participation. We work closely with our collaborators in AOCS and the University of Sydney, and our aims include:

  • Identifying early changes that lead to ovarian cancer. This will eventually help identify women at increased risk that can be targeted for screening and may lead to novel ovarian cancer prevention strategies.
  • Improving treatment outcome by discovering methods to increase the effectiveness of chemotherapy and identifying genes that will help to predict response to chemotherapy in individual patients.
  • Designing better pathways for support and care for patients who are living with the disease
