What is your experience of ovarian cancer? -Research Participants Needed

·      Do you have ovarian cancer?
·      Are you the partner of a woman with ovarian cancer?
·      Does your mother have ovarian cancer?

If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of the above questions, we would love to speak with you!

We are conducting a research study into the experience of ovarian cancer. For the study, we want to talk with people affected by ovarian cancer – namely women with the disease and/or their partner and/or their adult children.

Being in the study would involve participating in one (or perhaps two) interview/s with one of the researchers. During the interview you will be asked to talk about your experience of ovarian cancer. You may choose to write about your experience of ovarian cancer, instead of, (or as well as) participating in an interview. Every effort will be made to protect your privacy and ensure confidentiality.

We are interested in finding out what it means to have ovarian cancer, and what it means to have a loved one who has the cancer. We are interested in how the disease has affected your life.

Results from this study will be used to tell health care professionals about ovarian cancer from your perspective.  This information will promote a better understanding about the impact of ovarian cancer on women and their families and will help health professionals learn how to best meet the needs of people in similar situations.

If you are interested in finding out more about this study and how you might be able to be involved, please contact the investigator listed below. We will send you a detailed information brochure about the study.

What role do general practitioners play in the cancer care team? - Research Participants Needed

This research is a collaborative project between the Cancer Council Victoria and the Australian Health Workforce Institute. The project aims to explore the views people with cancer, cancer specialists, general practitioners (GPs) and professional members of support organisations, have about the GP’s role in the cancer care team. We want to know what people with cancer want from and/or value about their GP in the cancer care team.

What’s involved?

Participating in a focus group with other people with cancer at an arranged time at the Cancer Council offices in Carlton, or a telephone interview at a mutually arranged date and time.

You will be asked some questions about the role your GP played in your cancer care, what you thought about this role and what role you think a GP should have in the care of someone with cancer. Some questions seeking some demographic information will also be asked. The focus group or interview will be recorded.

A summary of the findings can be forwarded to you.

Who can participate?

  People over 18years;

  diagnosed with cancer;

  have undergone at least one round of treatment, and

  willing to talk about their views and opinions about the role of GPs in the cancer care team.

Why is this research important?

Cancer care teams are multidisciplinary and to function effectively, continuity and co-ordination of care across team members is required. GPs are acknowledged as important members of the cancer care team yet little is known about the role GPs play in the multidisciplinary team.

This project will inform practical options to strengthen the role of the GP in the cancer care team to benefit people with cancer.

Are you interested?

Please contact Dr Susan King by email or telephone to leave your contact details. All questions about the project will be answered and a participant information sheet will be sent to you ONLY on request.
