  • In Australia, about 1 in 70 women will develop ovarian cancer before the age of 85
  • In 2008 - 2009 it is anticipated that 1500 Australian women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and more then 850 women will lose their battle with ovarian cancer. It is projected that this diagnosis will rise to 1645 in 2011*
  • It is the eighth cause of cancer diagnosis in Australian women and the sixth cause of death for Australian women*
  • If the disease is detected and treated at an early stage it is expected that a 90% rate of full recovery can be achieved
  • The overall survival rate (of all stages) after five years is around 42%
  • The medium age for first diagnosis is 64 years of age.
