dixie marshall

Dixie Marshall is Channel Nine Perth's senior newsreader. With a career spanning more than 25 years, Dixie is widely regarded as one of Perth's best journalists. Dixie began her career as a cadet general news reporter with Channel Nine in 1984. She has also worked for The Australian newspaper and Radio 6PR.

Dixie became the first woman in Australia to commentate AFL football on television when she moved to Melbourne. She won a number of awards for sports reporting while working for Channel Seven, covering all major sporting events such as AFL football, Wimbledon, and the Commonwealth and Olympic Games. Dixie also hosted the national program Sportsworld with Bruce McAvaney.

Returning to Perth with a severe case of homesickness, Dixie left sports reporting behind, becoming a senior reporter with Channel Nine Perth.

Throughout her career, Dixie has interviewed alleged serial killers, flown abroad to track down international fugitives and has covered a wide range of high profile stories such as the Bali bombings.
Dixie is also an accomplished public speaker and a sought-after MC. She is a tireless worker for Channel Nine's Appealathon, acting as MC for many charity events each year for the station, and is a strong advocate for women's rights. Dixie's role as ambassador for Ovarian Cancer Australia has included acting as MC at a number of Perth fundraising and ovarian cancer awareness events.

Dixie has two children — Matilda, born in 1998, and Charlie, born in 2002. Dixie describes the juggle of family and professional life as exhausting, but a privilege.
